“Big City Experience, Small Town Service”

Are there different types of Social Security Disability?
Social Security Income (SSI)  provides income to individuals that are indigent that have either attained age 65, are blind, or disabled.   SSDI provides income to blind or disabled people who have contributed sufficient payroll taxes to the Social Security system.

The difference between the two is that an SSI recipient must be indigent, meeting some income and resource rules and are paid only to the person applying, not their dependents.   There is no earning requirements for a person on SSI.  In order to get SSDI, you have to have paid enough payroll taxes to the Social Security Administration and you have had to paid those in within certain time limits.
